Asset Tracking Open Source

Asset tracking is more than the fixed assets portion of one's accounting and ledgers. It is the management of material things. On the one hand it is about managing what goes into a standard "kit" of tools for a certain kind of work. On the other hand it is about rapidly locating those assets. (Who has HR's copy of the building plans?)

Tracemor is open source software that facilitates the inventory and movement of business assets. In addition, it also inventories "inventory" - which can be items more like "supplies" (toner cartridges, paper, and other consumables) or items that are actually purchased and resold. To distinguish Tracemor's functions from corporate accounting functions, think "packing list" - not invoice.

You can see a demo of the package here.

Tracemor can be up and running quickly on a pay-per user basis (a service offered by Tracemor's builders.) Or, if you prefer not to pay per user and do not like the thought of sharing a server with other businesses - the software can be installed on your own server.

It is the design of a scheme for the coding and categories of items and for custom fields that most do-it-yourselfers will get into trouble. Creating categories is just so darn easy, that before you know it - an unmanageable mess has been made. A little planning, process design and training could have created an elegant solution.

Technology Integration into the business process is what we do. the value of a business tool is not determined by how cheaply it can be purchased. It's value depends on how effectively it is used.
